Half Moon Studios - Workshops - Transferring a Tradition

Half Moon offers youth workshops based on Birch Bark Biting. We work along side the elders and grassroots people in the communities to preserve our art history and culture through teaching and entertaining the youth. We also teach the children the importance of food sovereignty. Teaching the children how to plant, maintain and generate seeds for the future will have a positive effect for generations to come.

We incorporate as many life skills and lessons into our workshops as we can.

    Half Moon Woman
Half Moon's has been leading workshops on birch bark bitings for the last 16 years. They are very interactive and the children always enjoy themselves. She talks about the history, culture and shares pictures of old birch bark bitings. Half Moon teaches the children how to make their own designs, folding techniques and  how to visualize the designs in their minds. We teach the children the importance of patience. Half Moon feels this is a form of meditation and believes this will help the children with pride and confidence while showing them that the only thing stopping a person from achieving a goal, is themselves; if they work hard enough they can achieve any goal.

    Mark Anthony Jacobson
Mark’s workshops are very interactive with the children. The workshop starts off with a smudge explaining to the children the importance of living life in a good way. Also sharing teachings about the history of the Ojibwa shaman art. The children will each get a small canvas. Mark will paint a piece with the children .
